Tourism is a major industry in Kwazulu Natal, being gifted with rich environmental wonders. It is one of most visited places in South Africa and in the whole African continent . Kwazulu Natal has hundreds of overwhelming natural and wildlife attractions that a one week visit is not enough to explore the majestic beauty of the province.
The province has a dozen of beaches ideal for surfing, swimming, and sun bathing. Some of the famous beaches are Margate, Willard, Ramsgate, Marina, and South Beach. Most of them have a community of restaurants, bars, clubs, shops, and hotels nearby. Hiking is also a favorite activity of tourists, as Drakensberg mountains and Maputaland forests provide great hiking trails, trekking places, and camping sites. The province is a heaven of mountaineers seeking for challenging slopes, most specially in the regions of Drakensberg, East Griqualand, Elephant Coast, South Coast and Zululand.
Being connected to the Indian Ocean, Kwazulu Natal is also given great water attractions. It has numerous places for scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, and whale and turtle watching. Some of the world's most beautiful diving reefs are within the Sodwana Bay, which is located in the northern part of the province. The Sodwana Bay covers nine miles of reefs that feature magnificent and breathtaking underwater scenery wherein hundreds of species of fish and marine wildlife swim in an ocean war of colorful and patterned skins, scales and fins.
